A TAX DEDUCTION AND SAVING A CHILD'S LIFE AT THE SAME TIME.

I believe the U.S. Tax Code was written with the idea that helping others should also benefit the donor. Thus, the tax deduction for charity giving has remained a constant itemized deduction through many years of tax law changes.

There are many ways of giving and many charities to give to. It all depends on your desire to help.

The rest of this message will deal with one charity that can save the lives of millions of children and the different methods to help.

My oldest son was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes when he was two years old. His life, his mother's life, his younger brother and sister's lives and my life will never be the same.

Insulin is not the cure. Each container of insulin comes with the warning that taking too little or too much can kill you. Insulin is the same as a life preserver to a drowning person. It will hold you afloat for a while, but if help does not arrive the life preserver will not maintain your life.

Diabetes kills one American every three minutes. A new case of diabetes is diagnosed every 40 seconds.

Juvenile Diabetes kills kids. Juvenile Diabetes blinds kids. Juvenile Diabetes kills legs and arms and kidneys and a child's dreams.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was founded in 1970 by parents of children with diabetes who promised to find a cure within their children's lifetimes. JDRF's mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through research. JDRF gives more resources to diabetes research than any other nonprofit, nongovernmental organization in the world. More than 80 cents of every dollar go directly to diabetes research and education with only 5 cents spent on administrative costs.

My oldest son is now fifteen years old and is on an insulin pump, which was developed through research from your help. Without insulin he would have not seen his third birthday. Without the insulin pump he would have to take four to five shoots a day. With insulin and no cure his dreams may never be realized. Help.

I have served as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the South Florida Chapter of The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for six years and I have come to an understanding of this killer of children and know that we must find a cure.

All I ask of you is in your tax planning, estate planning, charity planning is help. No help no cure. It is as simple as that.
